Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was off-loading my second load of the day and Bob rolls up on his bike. Bob is an older, ethnic Indian man from British Guyana, in South America. He is in his early sixties.
He was making small talk, when he brought up about Antoine's firing. I had heard about it a week ago, that he had gotten fired for being lazy, but I didn't know the full story.
Antoine was a forty-year old African-American man. He was real skinny and most of his language was a series of profanity. But he said it in such a funny way it didn't seem off-putting.
Bob had told me that he had a reputation of being lazy ever since he worked there. Whenever they called for him on the radio he would never answer. I told Bob that Antoine complained that he was hired to be an AC man, but they never asking to do air conditioning work.
Bob laughed, and said Antoine didn't know beans about AC work! Bob told me that during the big freeze here, when the temperature was only seven degrees They needed Antoine on the roof.
I'm sure it was a lot colder on the roof, where it was windy. That's seven degrees probably felt like zero! Well they needed Antoine to help with the air conditioner's on the roof to keep them from freezing up. Well they found Antoine by the heater in the shop!
They couldn't get Antoine away from the heater! I had known them for about a year I knew he didn't like cold weather, as most black people generally don't. Apparently, that was the last straw, and so they fired Antoine! He was just a temporary worker, so they actually just discontinued his contract.
It was a shame that he had been fired, because I really liked the guy. He is always quick to help me with the hoses, whenever I was hooking or unhooking in the truck. He complained a lot about the company, but he has always did it in a funny way. I wish nothing but the best for him.
