I Quit!

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

I had a student today he's a Hispanic American from the area of Houston called "North Shore," which is on the east side of town. It's a mostly Hispanic African American part of town.

He's a young guy in his thirties, but he's been the last ten years in the junk car business. He has Mexican heritage and told me several stories about going back to Mexico on vacation.

He started driving the truck, because too many people were getting in the junk car business.  He started in the junk car business ten years ago, with a friend of his. They would strip the valuable things from the car, and then sell the car for scrap. They'd buy a junk car for two or three-hundred dollars, then sell the car for scrap for about twenty-five dollars a pound.

But more and more people start getting into the junk car business. So much so, that prices for scrap metal dropped to about eleven or twelve dollars per pound! When the price got that low it was no longer worth it to stay in that type of business. So he said, "I quit" the junk car business!

So here he is with me, training in the truck, and getting into a more stable form of employment. He's a really smart guy and will be very successful in this career field.

Have you ever been in a junk car business? If you have can you tell us about it? If you enjoyed this story, and want to catch future stories, just click on the "follow" button at the top of the page.
