Pollution Control

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Today started off as a pretty good day. I got to Goodman at seven-in-the-morning, and unloaded at a  reasonable time.  I went back across the street to pick up my second load of the day, Then I saw an unusual truck parked at the front office.

I read the door sign on the car which said, "Harris County pollution control."  I thought maybe there was an inspection going on!  I walked in the office to get my paperwork from Madison, the clerk. I asked her about it, but she was noncommittal about the whole situation. And I found that a little hard to believe that she didn't know what was going on!

It's common that there are bad smells coming from VLS Services. And with  a residential district right  across the street, I'm thinking that somebody made a phone call and complained about unusual smells coming from the plant.

Madison told me that any unusual smells usually came from the plant next door, where they handle non-hazardous waste. I informed her they just built that place and the smells were around beforehand.  She just laughed and said we didn't know where those smells came from.

I know where they came from, they came from VLS Services. They wash out chemical trailers and rail cars, and these chemicals do stink up the place!  I smell stuff there all the time from when they're washing things out.  And I understand that there's not much they can do about that, that's just the nature of the business.

But at least it's good that somebody from the county is coming out and checking up on them and anybody else that's polluting the environment. I certainly don't want to be smelling chemicals in the air.  And I'm certain to people across the street don't want to smell it as well.  They tell me that's the smell of money but it sure does smell like pollution to me!
