Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
Head over black man as the trainee for four days straight. He was very annoying the whole time and very arrogant and prideful. It's always hard to train guys like that. He was like that because he has been driving a truck for thirty-five years for the same company and thought he knew it all.
But he was talking to him and told me a lot of stories. What story was that He was in the Navy, On a frigate named New Jersey. New Jersey was a battleship not a frigate, so I think you lied about the whole thing. But regardless, He didn't tell me an interesting story that could be correct.
He said he knew a guy in the ship that planned on going AWOL in Australia because they have lots of waves to ride. AWOL is a military term meaning, "absent without leave!" This was during the Vietnam War, which would have made it a serous offence. This guy was a surfer and just wanted to have a free ride to Australia. Surfers do live Australia for the great surf that they have there.
I told him going AWOL during wartime would probably not a good idea. You certainly would not be allowed to come back in the country without being arrested! He said this guy didn't care He was staying there for the rest of his life. He just wanted to have a free trip to get over there. He said some of the officers knew what he was going to do.
I kind of made the comment that going through boot camp for six weeks and joining the military is a hard way to get a free trip to Australia! I think I'd rather work a job for awhile, and save my money, and fly over there myself. Then if I didn't like it I can always come back to the country.
But this was the sixties, a time of hippies and beach bums! And both of those groups are not known for making good choices in life! I know he lied about his naval service. I don't know if this story is true or false. You can decide for yourself.
