Just after the fire at VLS Recovery Services, they first informed Daiken and us that they would be down for the rest of the week! So, Arkema ordered some Freon trucks from their plant in Kentucky, to replace the loads they were not going to receive from VLS.
I took this picture just outside my drivers door. |
One truck arrived on Tuesday, late in the afternoon, when I was already gone. That truck was a regular trailer that had it's own pump and hoses. It was a fellow Trimac Transportation truck. The picture you see above was the load that arrived on Thursday. By that time VLS was back up and running again! The fire was put out, except for some smoldering barrels in the bottom of the pile.
I was told that he would arrive at ten in the morning. My instructions was to unload my first load, wait on the Kentucky truck, help him to unload, then get my second load. That would have been a long day! But that morning I received the call that he was not going to be there until noon. He had a flat tire along the way!
This was taken out of my back window, which was very dirty! |
While waiting for him at the gate at Daiken, I received the call that my second load was pushed to tomorrow morning. That was actually good news! It would be a long day anyway! The Kentucky truck arrived about a quarter past noon. My first load was done and I had just picked up my now pre-load for tomorrow.
I had him follow me to the tank farm, which was around the building, about a quarter of a mile! Daiken in Waller, Texas, is the third largest manufacturing plant in North America! I parked first and then had him back up besides me next to the tanks.
I got the guy unloaded. He had no high pressure fittings, or any understanding of unloading an ISO container. He was a nice guy, but a bit weird. I got him unloaded and he followed me out of the plant. I went East towards Houston. He went West to go to the Loves Truck Stop to weigh, then back to Kentucky.
There is another Kentucky truck arriving on Saturday. That truck won't need me around, it will be a regular trailer like the one that came on Tuesday. It will be able to unload itself! If you have any comments about this story, please share them in the comments section.
