Losing People

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

After hooking up my first load of the day, I was talking to Robert, the lead man here at Goodman, on this shift. Goodman manufacturing makes air conditioners and furnaces.  He is a middle-aged black man. He spent ten years in the army until he got hurt.

I had asked him why for the last two days I only had one load a day. Since this is the busy season for air conditioning, I was kind of curious. They had them working on the roof to fix leaks from the rain, and I thought that would be the reason.

He told me they're running out of employees!  He said employees have been quitting left and right. Goodman had a job fair last weekend hired three-hundred people but after a week, only fifty-five remained!  I bet that that doesn't replace the employees they are losing.

Robert and I just shook our heads. Goodman manufacturing is organizing a committee to discover why they're losing their employees. We both know full well why they are losing their employees.

They bring in the factory assembly line workers at only ten dollars an hour! Ten dollars an hour is not much for the work they have to do. You cannot live on ten dollars an hour, I don't see why they think anyone can. If they want to keep employees at this factory they are going to have to raise wages for the assembly line workers.

Across the street at VLS Recovery Services, the last few weeks, they've lost eleven employees. About half were fired and half quit, because they found better paying jobs elsewhere.  They make a million and a half dollars every month, surely they can raise wages a couple of dollars an hour!

American businessman are just plain greedy! They want to maximize the money for themselves, and the company.  They just lost the understanding that the company is the employees, and if they keep the employees happy, you're going to have a healthy company!
