Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I was talking to a Goodman employee named Wiley. He was an old truck driver himself, He used to haul milk of Sulfur Springs, Texas in the nineteen-eighties.
Wiley is an overly chubby white man in his early sixties. He has a raspy voice from smoking all his life. He has long shoulder length straight hair. His hair is always clean but can always use a comb!
He told me of a time he took a load of milk from Sulfur Springs, Texas to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was a cold winter that year the late eighties, and a large snowstorm had just hit the area of Oklahoma.
Wiley drove out Texas into Oklahoma where he had seen the state police signaling people off the road. Wiley stopped and rolled down those window, the cop walked up and told Wiley he had better park for the night, since the road was ahead was filled with trucks in the ditch, and other accidents!
Wiley wasn't about to do that! He was going to deliver that load of milk, if it was the last thing he did! He got up and put his snow chains on his truck tires. With his truck chained up he slowly drove back on the snowy and icy freeway!
He drove slow and steady, and finally made it to the receiver in Tulsa! While he was driving up there and as he was waiting to offload the snow steadily increased! it became whiteout conditions as so much snow was falling!
So much snow was falling, at factory where he was all delivering his milk, that he was now blocked and snowed in. Seven truck drivers and five factory employees were now trapped in this factory! This was the days before cell phones and the internet.
The snow kept falling and kept getting higher. All the food they had, was eaten from the trucks and the bending machines in the factory. The drivers would sleep in their trucks at night and the factory workers were sleeping on the break room floor.
They were all out of food, when Wiley decided it was time to walk and find some. He slowly dug a path before him in the snow, going down the road. That's when he saw a light on in the Pizza Hut restaurant down the street.
He slowly made his way to the Pizza Hut restaurant. He walked up to the door, and started banging on the door to let him in. The manager walked over and said we're closed we're not open for business!
Wiley kept banging on the door, and said, please let me in. So the manager motion through the window, for Wiley to get the snow away from the door. When he did so he was able to open door and let Wiley in the store. Wiley told the store manager of his predicament.
He told the man that seven drivers and five factory employees were trapped without any type of food. So the manager said okay, I'll start making pizzas, you walk back there and tell those people to make it this way.
So while we walk back and start banging on doors and telling the drivers and factory workers to follow him to the Pizza Hut. The store manager made twenty-two, single topping pizzas for the men! Since the phone lines were down he couldn't call for payment. The manager told him not to worry about the money, He was happy to help the guys out in their time of need!
All the men ended up staying there, snowed in for five days! They ate the pizza slow so it would last! When the phone lines were back up, Wiley called is dispatcher and told him all about it, and what the Pizza Hut manager did for them.
The next time that Wiley returned to that factory, He had a check in his hand so he could take it to the Pizza Hut store manager. Wiley walked over and paid the man for the twenty-two pizzas. Those men that week were saved by pizza!
