Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I had Trent Chumley with me in my truck about ten-months ago. He was an interesting character. He is what I call a very simple-minded man. His cousin, Dale, calls him retarded! Those are Dale's words, not mine.
Trent and I ran together while he was in training several times and I spent a lot of time training him and talking to him. Trent is a very slow learner, but he does learn. He speaks is a very simple manner, but he communicates what he needs to say very well.
When I ran with him he was having problems with his ex-girlfriend that continued to call and ask him for money. We talked for hours on his history with women and this one in particular. He asked me what he should do. I told him to stop answering her phone calls.
One day while talking about his momma and this woman, Trent started to cry! He was immediately embarrassed by it, but I told him that it was okay. I told him that crying cleanses the soul! Trent was around fifty-years-old, but still lived with his momma in East Texas. He had a very close relationship with his momma.
Trent finally finished training and drove team with his cousin Dale. But not for long, Dale soon kicked him off the truck and Trent left the company. Dale said that he would go in the sleeper and tell Trent to make a certain location. When he would get out of the sleeper, Trent would still be hundreds of miles away. Trent would often go in the wrong direction, not a good thing in the trucking industry!
Anyway, I liked Trent a lot and thought that he was a good guy. He was a simple country boy and women would take advantage of him. But he had a good home with his aged momma, and he did have a brother and sister. I wish him nothing but the best in life!
