Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!
I walked into the driver's room and Jermaine Hatch was there in the chair. He was on his phone, trying to stay awake. Four in the morning is kind of early for some people! I made my coffee and we headed out. He hated his first name and just went by "Hatch." He was out of the Geismer Branch and lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
We had a nice conversation driving to Daiken in Waller, Texas. He told me about his son and his failed marriage. She had an anger problem that I was familiar with. He had a lot of bitter feelings about it in the past, but he said that he was over it now.
He kind of dosed off there at the end, and he took a good nap while we were unloading. He is pretty handy and did a great job. He did a great job inspecting the equipment, but he was unfamiliar about trucking.. He had been out of the trucking business for seven years!
After the Waller load we returned to the yard and dropped and hooked with another one. There was a little water in the tank and I had him mop it up. I heated up my lunch and eat on the way, since we were running late.
At Third Coast, loading , I mentioned that I liked the triple option football offence.. Hatch told me that he was a running back for Georgia Tech! He was a big guy. He was very knowledgeable about the program, and told me all about it. They also ran the triple option.
When we got back to the yard, I was waiting for one of our newer drivers to back into a spot on the loaded line. I needed to back into one on the other side of him, so I waited on him. Even though it was just a straight back, he was having a lot of problems, he had to pull up three times!
When I meet him at the copy machine, he apologized for taking too long. He said that when he seen me watching him, he got real intimidated! I didn't think that I had that affect on people!
We had a great day together. He will be here for two weeks of training. He was a modest guy and I think that it will be well with him!
